“It was December shortly after the fires that tore through my town and devastated our community. I was headed into work at UT Medical Center when out of nowhere, a car pulled out in front of me shattering my midfoot. Which later was known to be a Lis-Franc injury. I had seen Dr. Tonne, who performed my first surgery. I was scheduled to ship out to boot camp for the US Navy February, which I had worked tirelessly day after day only to succumb to this life-altering injury. My first surgery failed, and I got deferred to the great Dr. Seaworth. She performed a midfoot fusion with a bone graft from my hip previously. Still dealing with the thought that I would never be able to return to the Navy devastated me.
I wanted to give up, give up all hope that a healthy life after this was not achievable. Each visit with her over two years she brightened my spirits with her stories and the dream she had in me. She believed I could do anything. She pushed me with my recovery. She was patient with me and my onset anxiety and just made me feel like family. She gave me my life back. After three years of being unemployed, and thinking I would never be able to stand for more than an hour at a time. I received a position at the state prison currently undergoing rigorous physical training, and my foot is 100%! My goal is still set to reenlist in the US Navy in due time, but none of this would have been possible without the Brilliant, Understanding and Compassionate Dr. Seaworth.
